Key Person System

At Tots Teachers Preschools, every child is assigned a key person when they join our setting.  This special role helps create a secure and trusted bond, ensuring that each child feels safe, valued, and understood from their very first day.  Your child’s key person provides consistent care and emotional support, helping them to settle comfortably, develop confidence, and thrive in their learning journey.  Through close observation, encouragement, and communication, the key person connects the child, their family, and the preschool community.

The key person’s core responsibilities include:

  • Building a warm, nurturing relationship with their assigned child, becoming their trusted and familiar adult.

  • Offering comfort, reassurance, and understanding during times of transition, uncertainty, or distress.

  • Providing consistent care to promote emotional security and ease separation anxiety.

  • Observing each child’s interests and development, and planning activities that reflect their individual needs and strengths.

  • Communicating closely with parents, sharing updates and insights to support the child’s ongoing growth.

  • Helping the child confidently explore their environment and embrace new experiences.

A strong key person relationship gives children the confidence to learn, play, and form positive relationships, while offering parents peace of mind knowing their little one has a dedicated, caring adult who truly knows and champions them.
